Being a dog mom is not something I take for granted. Imagine receiving unconditional love, devotion, and trust from another living being.
Don’t get me wrong! I love my kids and grandkids. But, my 4-legged furry friends are 100% pure unconditional love.
Here Are My 7 Reasons…
1. They don’t roll their eyes or get embarrassed when you are being silly.
2. They run to you and are thrilled to see you every time you walk through the door or, even into a room.
3. As a dog mom, I am always thrilled that they never get too old to want to jump in your lap or want to be cuddled.
4. And they always want to go on walks with you!
5. Our dogs are my trusted friend.
6. The feeling of comfort and even safety they give is unwavering.
7. They are always looking out for me and come running when I call.
Our dogs deserve our love because they speak the language of love. It is not a verbal expression. They express love and loyalty through their eyes and the essence of their souls. They miss me when I am gone and they greet me at the door with excitement when I return.
When is the last time you showered your dog with hugs and rubs to show your appreciation and love in return?
I will bet you it was today!
Our dogs are always around someone in my family. As a dog mom, it is important to me that whenever my family is gathered our dogs are present too. It just doesn’t feel like a true family gathering if they are not there.
One of my key roles as a dog mom is their health and well-being.
We give them regular exercise even if it is just a quick walk around the block. I feed them nutritious food and they usually eat it without much fuss, unlike my children.
Dog Mom Juggling
It is true, our dogs are an extension of my family. I love them with the same passion that I love my family and treat them with the same respect. I especially like big dogs that don’t shed. In addition to juggling my time around soccer practice and band shows, I find myself also making sure someone is home at certain times to make sure the dogs are fed.
Being a dog mom means you must also plan your day-to-day life around your four-legged children’s schedule.
My friends know I am a dedicated dog mom because every vacation must allow me to bring my dogs along. My weekend plans include my dogs. And every holiday includes dog decorations, costumes, sweaters, and coats.
Even my kids and grandkids get into the dog mom role. When they call me on Skype they always ask how Schnell, Oscar, and Dusty are doing. The dogs always must make an appearance. They all usually come running once they hear the kids or the grandkids on the computer. That is unconditional love.
It took Dusty a while to catch on to the whole Skype thing. He kept running around the desk looking for the kids and sniffing and pawing the screen. I think he might be catching on!
