In Sweden, an unlikely pair has the most beautiful friendship. A dog and a horse greet each other by hugging, kissing, or grooming each other.
Orion, the dog, was eight weeks old when he met a horse named Destiny. Rebecca Gulhom, their mom, introduced Orion to horses at a young age because she wanted him to get used to them. On that first day, she just let Orion roam around and explore.
Destiny noticed him and stuck out her neck to greet him. Orion stood up on his hind legs to return the greeting. It was like love at first sight. Since that day, they had a daily routine to hug and kiss each other.
Orion always knew when they were near the barn. He would start to whine and get excited that he’s going to see Destiny very soon. Orion ran to the pasture as soon as he got out of the car, and Destiny would go to the gate to meet him. They liked running back and forth in the pasture, and it could go on for hours.
Orion and Destiny had many things in common. They were both intelligent, curious, and playful. They had mischievous moments, like the time that Destiny opened her stall to get to a bale of hay. Orion saw this as a chance to play with her, and they did just that.
They were always together, that they started to act like each other. Destiny would play with Orion’s toys, like the balls and knots. Orion would eat grass when he sees Destiny grazing.
Rebecca would take them hiking many times a week. Orion would run ahead then look back as if to make sure that Destiny was still with him. He really did not want to lose sight of his best friend.
There was one summer when Destiny cut her leg. The injury was so bad that the vets wanted to do surgery. Throughout Destiny’s ordeal, Orion stayed with her and comforted her. He kept her company until she healed.
Orion and Destiny made each other happy.
