Dogs are one of the kindest animals in the world. They show even more compassion than humans. That is why it is not very surprising to see many stories on the internet about dogs who happily foster babies, even those of other species.
The featured story below is one such video. The dog in the video, a compassionate Golden Retriever named Millie, took it to herself to take care of an abandoned baby squirrel. Even when dogs love to chase squirrels away, Millie showed that she’s more than willing to care for the squirrel as her own.
Millie’s compassion became apparent when one day, she found the baby squirrel in their backyard. According to Millie’s owner, the baby squirrel looks to have fallen from one of the trees in the yard.
When Millie led her owner to the fallen baby squirrel, she was hesitant at first, thinking that the mother squirrel could be somewhere nearby. She didn’t want to take the baby squirrel away from its mother. So, she decided to wait a day just in case the mother squirrel came for the baby.
During this time, they made sure to look after the baby squirrel while it was outside to make sure it was doing okay. Sadly, the mother squirrel never returned, and so they decided to take the baby squirrel inside. Following Millie’s lead, they fostered the baby squirrel, at least until it is big enough to return to the wild.
After a week in their care, the baby squirrel had already made milestones and grew from a helpless little squirrel with its eyes shut to an energetic little ball of fur who wants nothing more than to play with its best friend and foster mom, Millie. They named the baby squirrel, well, “Squirrel.”
Millie and Squirrel created an unbreakable bond. With Millie acting as its foster parent, the two became inseparable, and Squirrel doesn’t seem to want to leave her foster mom’s side.
