It’s always good to have clearly defined limits, and it’s easy enough to communicate when you could speak. What do you do if you couldn’t? This dog found a creative way to communicate without words.
This German Shepherd’s name is Rocky. He’s a good boy, and like any other puppy, he liked to play. A little roughhousing was never a problem, but dad discovered there was a line he shouldn’t cross on this day.
Rocky was hanging out on the couch when dad decided to do a little paw play. The usually amiable pet responded rather roughly. Dad touched his paws again, and the pet showed his teeth to defend himself.
His dad thought he was just play-biting, so he continued touching rocky’s paws. The pup was now in full defense mode, and he couldn’t wait to sink his teeth into his human’s straying hands.
Fortunately, dad got the non-verbal cues that Rocky sent. Otherwise, it could have ended in a bloody situation, and no one was keen on that.
Dad then gave Rocky some back rubs instead. All seemed well until, in true human style, the pup’s owner began touching his paws again. He was teasing the pet.
The German Shepherd was back on defense mode, but this time, his bites included whimpers that told dad enough was enough.
Sorry, doggo; we humans love to tempt fate, so don’t be too surprised if we kind of push our limits. We were told to do so since we were kids, hence the behavior.
To be fair, we also keep up with you when you want certain things to go your way, so we say it’s a tie. Don’t worry; your human was just messing around with you. He gets that you don’t like it.
Cheers to more exciting events in the future, Rocky!
