Let’s Adopt International received an anonymous tip that a dog struggled to survive in a landfill in southern Spain. Quickly, the organization’s founder, Viktor Larkhill, assembled his team. After putting up a plan, the rescuers immediately jumped into action to save the dog.
Viktor and his crew drove for hours to make it to the rescue site. Once they arrived, they saw a giant dog, sitting on a heap of trash. She was so thin that her skin pressed against her ribs.
The rescuers had to talk to a few people before they could enter the property and pull out the dog. Meanwhile, some of the volunteers provided the poor animal with the essentials. They built her a makeshift cover, offered her some food and water, and promised her that they’d get her out of her miserable situation.
Viktor refused to go home without the dog, whom they named Maya, later on. The entire rescue team spent the day at the landfill, making sure Maya has everything that she needed. It was already late, and the rain started pouring, but Maya was still in the landfill.
A few more minutes later, the rescue team received the go signal to get into the property. They sprang into action and pulled Maya out of the filthy land. With the heavy rain still pouring, they walked the dog into the car wiped her dry with some towels.
Back at home, the vets revealed Maya was in critical condition. The poor girl spent the next several days in intensive care, and everyone feared she might not make it. She also needed surgery, and thankfully, the procedure was successful, and it saved her life.
Maya soon received her clean bill of health. Let’s Adopt International began searching for the best possible home for her. And before she knew it, the perfect family is already waiting for her.
Today, Maya lives in a beautiful home with three other dogs. She’s cared for and spoiled by her new mom. Instead of trash, Maya sleeps in a soft, warm bed. Maya’s finally home.
